First VCP International Conference
Cure VCP, an USA based association of patients with Multisystemic Proteinopathy type I, organized a conference aiming to provide news on basic, translational and clinical research in the disease. This is the first time that there is a conference fully focused in this disease. The conference took place at the campus of California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California, USA from the 24th to the 27th of February.
Two members of our team, Dr. Schiava and Prof. Díaz-Manera, were invited to present their research in the disease. The team has been working during the last year coordinating an International Network of Centers interested in VCP-MSP disease. They have collected clinical, genetic, muscle biopsy and muscle MRI results of more than 250 patients seen in neuromuscular units around the world. These results have been already published in three different papers. This work has been useful to better understand the heterogeneity of the disease presentation, to establish phenotype-genotype correlations and to describe the MRI and muscle biopsy features.
