Anniversary Conference

Neuromuscular Diseases:

the next ten years

The John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre is celebrating our 10-year Anniversary with an event, ‘Neuromuscular Diseases: the next 10 years’ at The Baltic Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne on the 24th-25th November 2024. We would like to invite you to the event and hope that you can celebrate together with us and our guests!

Over the last decade our centre has been performing translational research to bring diagnosis, care and therapy to people with neuromuscular disease. At the conference, we aim to reflect on our last ten years of success. We will also explore exciting developments in the field, as we look forward to what the next ten years of work will bring to the neuromuscular field. The conference will be arranged around our four strands of work, featuring exciting lectures from staff at the JWMDRC and panel discussions including leading neuromuscular experts. The programme will feature talks on the following topics:

  • Advancing neuromuscular diseases through research

  • Clinical Research for patients with neuromuscular diseases

  • Diagnostic & Clinical Services for patients with neuromuscular diseases

  • National & international networking initiatives

Registration and all catering is free at this event! Please register using the button below as soon as possible if you would like to join us, as we have limited spaces. We look forward to seeing you there!

FAQs

Airport transfers info

Newcastle International Airport (NCL) regularly receives flights from Amsterdam (KLM), Paris (Air France), and London Heathrow (British Airways), as well as from many other cities and airlines.

The airport is a 15min car ride to the city centre.

Arrow Cars is the dedicated on-site Taxi service. Book your journey quickly and easily online, by phone on +44(0)191 244 9966 or via email on [email protected].

You can also use the Tyne & Wear Metro light train service which will take you from the Airport to Newcastle Central Station via the Green Line in under 30mins.

Eurostar transfers info

If you travel via the Eurostar to London St Pancras, there are direct trains to Newcastle from London Kings Cross (a short walk from St Pancras station). This train will typically be a London North-Eastern Railway (LNER) service to Edinburgh (Waverley) or to Aberdeen, both stop at Newcastle.

Travelling by train

Newcastle Central Station is the closest train station. The Tyne & Wear Metro light train service runs from platforms adjacent to station concourse. The Metro is a great way to travel around the city with 60 stations on the network, serving Newcastle city centre, Sunderland city centre, Newcastle Airport and the seafronts at North and South Tyneside.
